About the Author

Judith is a former beauty queen from Jacksonville, Florida. She worked as an entertainment agent and producer in New York and Toronto. Judith recently retired from JPMorgan Chase in Los Angeles. She lives in Santa Clarita, California, with her four dogs Lucille McGillicuddy, Ethel Mertz, Marilyn Monroe, and Kelly Elizabeth Taylor. Her sons live close by, giving her nine grandkids and many “grand pets,” including Samson, the mighty horse. Every day, her family gives Judith an exciting, fun life. She enjoys show business. Her niece sings in a country band in Las Vegas, Nevada, and her grandson is in a rock band. You can find Judith in Las Vegas and Hollywood enjoying a little bit of country and a whole lot of rock and roll.

Reading this book is like sitting down with an enthusiastic loose-lipped girlfriend who doesn't mind telling it like it was ? and how many there were. She sometimes juggles a few men at a time, and while Robin's career takes off, Judith is living large, accepting expensive gifts, hanging with the mob in expensive nightclubs, and working at jobs she doesn't know how to do.

The author's tone is engaging, and the inclusion of many photos creates a sense of intimacy with the family. Still, the memoir is competently written with good humor. The author has joyfully painted a splashy portrait of a warm group of people that come alive in these pages.

In 1969 - at a time when women were becoming more liberated, both in the home and workplace - a single mother (Judith Yancey) seeking to escape her ...sexually-obsessed husband as well as to provide her younger sister (Robin) with a chance to realize her dream of becoming a successful singer - packed her three young children, her sister and mother, three dogs and 10 potted plants into a car and left Florida for New York City to seek the promise of a better life for her and stardom for her sister. The adventures and exploits they (humans and canines) encountered in the ""Big Apple"" are chronicled by the former beauty queen in the book ""Oranges in the Big Apple."" Filled with sex, humor, romance and tragedy, it details Ms. Yancey's vibrant social life (e.g. admirers - including entertainers/celebrities, Sheikh's, a mafia ""Godfather"" - night clubs, expensive gifts) as well as her employment history (e.g. ranging from counting wigs to being an entertainment agent). It also covers her younger sister's emerging singing career (which led to representation by William Morris Agency and performing with major entertainers (e.g. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bill Cosby, Tony Martin, Buddy Hackett, Joan Rivers).
