About the Book

Follow the journey of a young girl growing up privileged in the former Yugoslavia, her experiences during WWII, her pathway to becoming a Pharmacy Professor, separation from family, the birth of her personal family and her student family, and her work in Africa and America. Boka Hadzija shares her personal struggles as well as her family delights and, above all, her greatest joy: To be known as “Teacher.”

About the Author

Boka Wesley-Hadzija taught for 41 years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. She retired as full professor in 2010. Recognized as an inspirational mentor, a generous donor in support of students, and as an outstanding leader, she earned the 2005 C. Knox Massey Distinguished Service Award and no less than 35 awards for excellence in teaching. She is the only professor in the UNC System to have received three Tanner Awards for excellence in undergraduate teaching. Her contributions to UNC earned her induction into the Order of the Grail-Valkyries, Order of the Golden Fleece, and Order of the Old Well. Professor Hadzija established the “Boka Hadzija Award for Distinguished Service” at UNC in 2000.
