Chutzpah and Naïveté is about my experiences in Bulgaria as the first American graduate student to do research there after the resumption of relations, and thirty years of research and teaching in the country until the fall of Communism in 1989.


About the Author

Frederick B. Chary is Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University Northwest. He is a past president of the North American Bulgarian Studies Association and the author of The Bulgarian Jews and the Final Solution, 1940–1944 (Pittsburgh 1972); History of Bulgaria (Greenwood 2011); The Diary of Bogdan Filov, serialized in Southeastern Europe volumes 1–4 (1974,1977); “Bulgaria” in David S. Wyman, ed.; “The World Reacts to the Holocaust” (Baltimore 1998); and numerous other articles on modern Bulgaria and Eastern Europe.
