About the Book

This book traces the real-life experiences of Valerie's eldest son, Sean, who was injured in an automobile accident. Paralyzed from the waist down, the doctors told him he would never be able to walk again. All of Lucas's memories of his father consist of him in a wheelchair. While he has no suspicions about this fact, when he looks around and sees other people living their day-to-day lives in chairs, he can't help but be curious. Wheelchairs, while they are nothing to be afraid of, often raise questions for children that they cannot themselves answer. The bond between father and son is exceptionally beautiful and moving. This book traces that relationship while striving to answer some of the hitherto unanswered questions that Lucas and other children may have about their parents or anyone living with similar handicaps or disabilities.

About the Author

Valerie Kalmenson is an artist and a dancer living in Santa Monica, California, with her husband and family. She has raised three beautiful children, all of whom are now fully grown. Her eldest son is married and is the father of her first grandchild, Lucas.
