About the Book

This book is a collection of articles covering the senseless acts of terrorism and other acts of violence that were carried out (and are still being carried out) in the name of religion over past few years. Terrorists and acts of terrorism are not new phenomena in the world, but their recurrence in last few years, mostly in the name of one religion, has created great political and social turmoil not only in the countries where these occur but the world at large. The articles are a narrative of the damages caused by religious militancy as they happened over the last few years. Most articles are based on events at the time when some of the narratives happened, but the reactions the events caused in the affected countries and worldwide still reverberate in people’s mind. Many political backlashes that resulted from these events are still evolving and will have more consequences in politics and societies all over the world.

About the Author

Ziauddin M. Choudhury was born in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He attended Dhaka University for his undergraduate degree, and Punjab University, Lahore for Master’s Degree. In later years, he attended Cornell University, New York, and American University, Washington DC for his graduate and post-graduate studies. Ziauddin M. Choudhury spent his early career working for the government in Pakistan and thereafter Bangladesh. A member of the former Civil Service of Pakistan he served the government (1968-81) in various capacities including Deputy Commissioner in Noakhali and Chittagong districts. He left civil service to join the World Bank where he worked in Bank operations in South Asia, policy and research, finance, and information technology (1983-2012). He regularly writes for Newspapers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is the author of three books—Assassination of Ziaur Rahman and Aftermath (UPL, Dhaka; 2008), Fight for Bangladesh (Xlibris, Indiana; 2011 ), and Forty Years of Bangladesh (Xlibris, Indiana;2012). Ziauddin Choudhury is married with two children, and lives in Maryland, USA.
