Queen Athena and I sat together, looking down with Bosox alongside me, and watching Daddy finalize everything before waking up Mommy: a breakfast of warm bagels and cream cheese with sliced fruit, orange juice and milk, Belle's special treats, a blanket, two lawn chairs and a large umbrella since it was misting, and rain was forecasted. He had convinced Mommy, who was not an early riser like Daddy, to watch the moon go down as the sun rose early over the nearby Potomac River, and perhaps see the star, Sirius. After waking Mommy, they drove a short distance, arriving before darkness had lifted. As they walked to the water's edge, Mommy held Belle's leash with Daddy insisting on carrying everything else. It had already begun raining, but Daddy failed to notice Mommy’s quizzical look as he laid the blanket down and set up the chairs under the large umbrella. Athena continued to watch and listen in amazement as Daddy said, “The sun should begin to break soon, Susan. I guess the moon got away from us early; however, let's see if we can view Sirius.” Then, as we watched, Mommy looked at Daddy kindly – as only my earthly Queen could do – and said, “Joe, it's raining, so it's overcast. Neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars will be visible this morning.” Athena looked at me and gently asked, “Well, Alex?” And I nodded, with all the wisdom and joy of having been a Daddy's daughter, and replied with a happy smile, “Athena, a daughter's job is never done.”
