About the Book

The passing of more than 125 relatives, friends and acquaintances while writing the author’s second book, The Boys of Winter, motivated him to write Death, Dying and Living. At the age of 73, the author became acutely aware that in the game of life he is in the equivalent of the seventh inning of a baseball game or the fourth quarter of a basketball game or the winter of their lives. He is now one of the elder members of his family and the two communities in which he resides, one in Manhattan Beach Brooklyn, New York and the other in Boynton Beach, Florida. As a high school and college physical educator, health educator and athlete coach for more than fifty years, the author shares his thoughts and research about death. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s classic study defining the five stages of death, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, and Stephen Levine’s book A Year to Live are discussed. The book examines the leading causes of death in America and American’s attitudes, behaviors and methods for coping with death and dying. For many, there is rage and anger. For others, death can be the final stage of life and results in growth. This book will teach you how to die peacefully, happily, and appreciating each minute of your life. Strategies will also be presented to help you live successfully, age gracefully, and live longer.
