Electronic Warfare (EW) uses the entire Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) to detect, deceive, disrupt, or destroy an enemy's Command and Control capabilities, while ensuring friendly control of the spectrum and denying its use to adversaries.  It consists of three primary components: Electronic Attack (jamming), Electronic Protection (shielding), and Electronic Support (threat analysis).

EW has been a critical necessity for the safety of our nation for more than three-quarters of a century.  It can be applied from air, sea, land, or space, by crewed and uncrewed systems and can target communication, radar, vehicular and weapon systems performance and other assets. It’s annual revenues are multiple-billions of dollars for over 100 companies employing hundreds of thousands of skilled workers in the US alone

About the Author

Robert Simmen is a veteran of WWII with a total of eight years’ service beginning with enlistment in the Army Air Corps in 1945 and completing five years commissioned in the USAFR. Advanced education includes a BSEE in Communications from the University of Illinois and an MSc. from the Air University. Seven decades followed with positions of technical and business management for major companies that included Motorola, Northrop, ITT, Bell Aerospace, Litton and Interactive Intelligent Imagery Corp. (I3C) in Sunnyvale California which he co-founded with Dr. Edmund Connant Perry and Earl Russell Rhue in 1982.

“The Editor” has written and lectured extensively on the subject of Electronic Warfare with his first book “Threat Warning for Tactical Aircraft” in 2006 which describes the pivotal conversion of signal processing from Analog to Digital. His more recent study (included as Section Six of this book) not only includes his work in the early days of Autonomous Data Fusion (a forerunner of Artificial Intelligence), but also details an example of how we could control AI without overly hampering the healthy development of the new technology of Large Learning Machines (LLM) that provide so many promises of great expectations for solutions to the world’s many problems.

Specific qualifications for compiling this book derive from the period of the late ‘70s to the present when he was working for Dalmo Victor and finally his own compant, I3C. Because of this plus serving the AOC first as President of the Golden Gate Chapter and then six years as Regional Director he became well acquainted with many of the West Coast companies and their products and hundreds of their employees.
