About the Book

About the Author

V.P. Canton is a self-made scholar, humorist, and iconoclast with an interesting perspective on the many aspects of life, including the present, the past and the future, along with the Cosmos. V.P. Canton was born in the early part of the 20th century never expecting to see the 21st century. However, that is life, as he says, haphazard and unpredictable. His most recent book, “Haphazard Evolution and Mutation” consists of a mere 41, 218 words, compressed into 119 pages of revolutionary insights and humor expressing exactly how he feels about the absurdities of “human life” on planet Earth in this the 21st century. Besides “human life,” as we know it, there is or was a diversity of life still remaining. Although V.P Canton is a reclusive, the few persons who think they know this disgruntled, disagreeable curmudgeon believe he has the “gift of prophesy.” Canton himself modestly denies any such gift. He believes instead that by thinking logically, he is able to make sense of the senseless as when a year before, in 2007, he predicted the skyrocketing price of oil and energy and the downturn in the economy, an unexpected disaster for the common masses. By daring to think outside of the box, unlike conventional scholars whose thinking is bound and restricted by too much formal education, Canton is free from such restraints. Where many scholars believe that there are two sides to every question, V.P. Canton believes that there may be three or four or more. He finds it most curios the haphazard evolutionary process continuing to take place in the brain of the most highly advanced primate, Homo sapiens, “humans.” While there is a fantastic range of abilities, few “humans” appear to have the ability to analyze or make the necessary connections in spite of any amount of education. It appears that of all animal species created by Mother Nature, She failed to correctly wire the neurons in only one species, Homo sapiens, “humans.” The result, with rare exception, is that more than 99.9% of all “humans” lack “common sense.” In lieu of universal common sense, there are laws everywhere including traditions and various mind-boggling superstitions. It is this lack of “common sense” that has led to some of the stupidest acts that any highly advanced primate can do along all modes of bizarre behavior including obsessions. Those “humans,” men and women who become suicide-bombers has to be the ultimate act of an obsession along with sheer stupidity. Canton sadly wonders what the world has come to in this the 21st century. V.P. Canton revels in his freedom from too much formal education, a fact that allows his imagination to soar and conceive new concepts. In his book, which is part autobiographical, part commentary, he comments on just about everything. In various parts of the book, in sections of a few pages called COMMENTS, Canton comments on all matters, on just about anything that strikes him, the profound along with the silly. He comments on everyday living and how it can unexpectedly change for the common masses. Canton and his wife have been most fortunate in the past twenty-five years in having traveled the globe. They especially recommend cruising. It is cost-effective, due to competition and convenient. From their experience, The Holland American Line offers the best value. Canton comments on the movies made in the 20th century and how they are vastly superior to present day movies in spite of new technology. Tom Jones, made in 1963 and starring Albert Finney and many unforgettable characters was directed by Tony Richardson depicts life in England in the 18th century. The problem for Canton is that each and every day, there is some entirely new item in the news that requires his comment. As an example, in this the 21st century, there has been an acceleration of rapid change affecting all life including even Homo sapiens, “humans” and rarely for the better. The fact remains that most “humans” are incredibly stupid and easily manipulated. That is why the forthcoming election for the President of the United States will cost a billion or more dollars. While the President Bush and Dick Cheney, two of the most shallow, spiteful, petty and vengeful “humans” anywhere to be found in any advanced country occupy the While House, the next President can only be an improvement. Included in Canton’s COMMENTS, is a brief biography concerning Bill and Hillary Clinton. Canton makes it a point to warn Barack Obama not to have Hillary as his running mate for obvious reasons. The 2008 presidential election is no worse than previous elections with its bizarre aspects. Canton wonders what a candidate, even one like Obama, must do out of political necessity? Barack Obama is asking his fellow democrats, most of modest means to make a contribution to pay off Hillary’s campaign debt of 20 million. Canton would suggest that the bitch, Hillary, ask her husband Bill who has over 112 million for the money instead. For a long time, the United States dispensed with the “draft” in favor of an all volunteer military. To encourage those serving to re-enlist, the Military Establishment are offering bonuses to all men and women who serve. As Canton sees it, in the present 21st century, the U.S. Armed Forces has become a military of mercenaries. Army re-enlistment bonuses top out at $40,000, Navy at $75,000, Air Force at $60,000 and the Marines at $45,000. Re-enlistment bonuses signed up for a combat zone become tax-free. Not bad for the mostly poor of the common masses.
