He Shall Wipe Away Every Tear What comes with a relationship with God? We already know that it includes belonging, relationship, intimacy, and direct access to God because He will live amongst us. Furthermore, God’s love comes into play clearly when the scripture in Revelation 21: 4 says, God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish [sorrow and mourning] nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away . . . The idea of God wiping away every tear from our eyes provides a picture of the tenderness and love of a father towards his child. Just like a child who has cut his knee and his mother scoops him up and wipes away the tears from his eyes and says, ‘It’s going to be all right.’ Why would God need to wipe away every tear? We learnt that Satan, through his agents and ministers, has set about breaking and crushing man through every means possible. People have experienced hurt and pain, sorrow and grief, torment and torture, trauma and sickness, disease and viruses of all kinds, and life has left lots of people crushed and broken. During this time, the extent of God’s care for man will not just be limited to physically wiping away every tear, but it goes much deeper. The key to understanding this verse is found in the word every. The word every (Greek word pas) means each, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything, whatsoever, and whosoever. The words wipe away (Greek word apo) means separation (place, union, fellowship, origin, and cause), departure, cessation, completion, and reversal. In light of the words wipe away every, it means that God will deal with, separate, stop, and reverse the effects and origins of every hurt, pain, sorrow, grief, torment, torture, trauma, broken heart, shattered dream and eradicate every bad memory associated with everything bad that has happened to us in life. Every horrible experience we have had, God will literally wipe away! It will be like a computer memory wipe. It will be as though it never happened. We will be completely free from our past and restored as through nothing bad had ever happened. Can you imagine what life would be like for us, to live as though nothing horrible or bad ever happened?
