About the Book

March, 1752.  The storm covered the entire horizon, its demarcation stark and foreboding.  The afternoon sunlight ended abruptly at its boundary and the wall of dark blue clouds displayed an angry roil, even at a distance.  The Captain of the three-masted sailing ship Sea Mist knew that he and his charges were in for a walloping fight.  The outcome would influence the lives of many people in an amazing way, even two centuries later.  For the Sea Mist’s precious cargo, a statue of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, is a startling enigma.  It was discovered by the ship’s crew on a lonely seacoast of the Pacific Northwest, and even in 1752 they could tell it had been there for a very long time.  Far longer than it should have been...

March, 1999.  Every day Sam Yazzie celebrates the simple bounties of a long and mystical life.  The Navajo elder has spent a lifetime learning the way to walk in beauty, and now he can say he has.  But something’s different today.  As the sun rises over the great Navajo Nation, he can sense something in the wind.  A restless feeling of change.  And in an instant he realizes the significance, for he knows the person the wind seeks.

Dan and Lisa Rockfield are enjoying a lazy day of sailing off the California coast, on a direct collision course with a stranger that will catapult them into an adventure that will completely change their lives.  They have no choice--it’s all in the wind, and as the crew of the Sea Mist found, nature is a force that can’t be resisted.  The couple, the stranger, and a young marine researcher with a zest for excitement join forces on a search for the missing statue.  But as the four begin their quest they have no idea what really awaits them, for the true prize of the Aphrodite Pursuit carries a value they can’t possibly foresee.  Sam Yazzie knows, and his powerful wisdom carries the key to their ultimate success.

The friends also find that their adventure carries a price.  Danger stalks them, success is elusive, and time is slipping away.  Nobody lives forever...
