About the Book

When Sam McGowan’s boss presents him with an ‘assistant’ for his archaeological expedition to China, it is hardly love at first sight.  Once Dr. McGowan and the mysterious and abrasive Deborah Lott reach the upper Yangtze Valley, McGowan is confronted with a number of uncomfortable revelations, courtesy of her father, tycoon Michael J. Lott, and his nemesis, Rhode Island Senator Matthew T. Mallory.  It seems Ms. Lott isn’t quite what she appears to be.

“You’ll regret knowing her, Doctor,” the senator promises.

Within months, the largest cyber-heist in history decimates the Chinese Treasury, McGowan’s brother is on the run for his life, and a militant Chinese dissident resurfaces after years underground.  McGowan and Deborah Lott are soon entangled in a deepening web of conspiracy and intrigue centered around Senator Mallory, and his sweeping Master Plan.

A powerful ally will come to their aid, but exacts a terrible price.

Love flourishes as armies march, missiles fly, and the world’s croplands whither and die.  A final showdown on a Rhode Island seashore leads to a shattering conclusion.  We’re left asking, “Who are these people?  And what are their Gifts?”
