About the Book

"A potentially dreary three-and-a-half hour train ride whizzed by thanks to The King´s Sister -- an excellent retelling of one of my all-time favorite stories -- King Arthur and the Roundtable. Seeing the story thru Arthur´s sister´s eyes afforded a different and excellent perspective to view the events unfold. The book moves so smoothly -- thanks to graceful writing and pacing. Bravo. I look forward to the sequel."
— Michael Alexander Eisner, author of THE CRUSADER (Doubleday, 2001).

"Kate Schafer´s work is delightful, brimming with exuberance. Her Anna Pendragon is a charming new addition to Arthurian lore and now, having read The King´s Sister, I won´t be able to think about Camelot without her."
— Christopher Golden, author of STRANGEWOOD, STRAIGHT ON TIL MORNING, and THE WATCHER´S GUIDE.

Set amidst the historical context of sixth century Britain, and against the conflict between Celtic paganism and the rise of Christianity, THE KING’S SISTER traces Anna’s path from the coronation of Arthur until the final battle against Morgause and Mordred. Anna finds friendship, family, and love, and must learn to let go when the inevitable occurs.
When word of a new king of Britain reaches their castle at Tintagel, Anna Pendragon and her mother Igerna must travel to Cadbury, the legendary Camelot, to meet the king. There they discover he is her brother, Igerna’s child long believed to be dead. As Anna learns of her heritage, we are swept into the history of the Knights of the Round Table and the mystical reign of King Arthur. Romance and intrigue abound, as the famed legends take on a new life in Anna’s eyes – from the kindly giant Gawaine and the minstrel romancer Tristan to the courtly Gaheris, Anna’s closest friend and more. Merlin’s odd sense of humor is strangely reminiscent of Monty Python, and Gwynifar is cast in a new role – usurper of Arthur’s love, and Anna’s place.
This historical novel draws on the mythology of Arthurian literature, with grateful nods to Thomas Malory, T.H. White, and Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot, but places Anna at the center of the tales. A coming of age story in the greatest age of all.
