About the Book

A small boy finds a coin in the aftermath of a severe storm. He takes it home to his mother, but does not recognize what it is. She does not either. She shows it to her husband, thinking it may be an old army coat button. He recognizes it and pretends not to. He tells her he lost it somewhere. His girlfriend tells her other boyfriend about the coin. He tries to steal it under the state antiquities act. The jeweler to whom he showed the coin, casually mentions it to his down on luck cousin, who is fired up by the thought of buried treasure. This leads to tragedy on a small Caribbean island, where tales El Dorado have haunted explorers from Columbus to present day diggers on the beach. Police corruption is the backdrop against which the drama is played out.

About the Author

Linda E. Edwards is a teacher of English at a Houston area high school. She moved to Houston ten years ago after living in various Caribbean islands and in Delaware. She earned an honors degree in English and History from the University of The West Indies, Trinidad, and a Masters’ Degree in Education Administration from the University of Delaware. Her novel is set on the island of Trinidad, and deals with people living ordinary lives, and facing almost in surmountable problems. Her work, COIN OF GOLD, reflects the values of a once tranquil society now being rapidly transformed by infusions from the global village. Greed takes on new dimensions that disrupt the peaceful flow of a family’s life, and leads to tragedy. In the aftermath of the flood that forms the background, good attempts to triumph over evil.
