About the Book
The neo-beat poetry from an outsider at its best. Rarely a non-native speaker enriches written and spoken word in such a causal and exciting way as the Slovak-born poet Gabriel A. Levicky who is also known under his art pen name as GabLev (cartoons, assemblages and ´gablevages´). This book indirectly follows a path of his previous samzidat-published books back in the hard-line neo-Stalinist country (since then free) in the 70´s as well as the one done in the USA, his new home since 1979. A must for any modern poetry lover. Czech it out!
About the Author
This is a third book of poetry collection from a poet who originally came (escaping via four countries) to the U.S. in 1979 from the former Czechoslovakia. While the first book Neznáma Poézia [The Unknown Poetry] (reflecting the influence of the American beat culture) was published clandestinely (in Bratislava, Slovakia) as a samizdat in 1977; the second, The Unknown Poetry #2, was published in San Francisco (1991), encompassing his “California” experience. The new collection B(lack) & W(hite) Wet Paint Poems is a broad preview of poet’s New York presence and his involvement with a local poetry scene as well as with his new voice and visions. He is also busy as a translator and a visual artist - his cartoons, assemblages, & collages had been exhibited and published internationally. Gabriel believes that a poet doesn’t need to talk too much about his/her work; let his poems speak, shout, scream, yell, bark, howl, and whisper for themselves…
