About the Book
Carol Sabala, motivated by curiosity and perversity, probes into the death of Chef Jean Alcee Fortier. As a great womanizer, Fortier has left a trail of possible suspects at Archibald´s, a swanky, Santa Cruz restaurant. Was the murderer Delores Medina, his current young lover? Did she discover that Fortier had once been her mother´s flame? Could Patsy, the feminist lesbian, have killed Fortier as an act of environmental clean-up?
Baker/sleuth Carol has barely begun her investigation when someone poisons her with a petit four at the company Christmas party. To add injury to insult, Carol is attacked when her investigation leads her to a barrio in Watsonville and she´s mistaken for a gang member because of the color of her clothing. While she´s able to keep the poisoning and the assault a secret from her concerned husband, the next time, she´s not so lucky. As her husband´s opposition to the investigation grows, one wonders whether the calm, strong Buzz Fraser will make a play for Carol. Or, is he the murderer with a different end in mind?
