About the Author
Phillip Romero, M.D. is a Child and Family Psychiatrist, artist and writer. He began writing The Art Imperative twenty-five years ago, inspired by the birth of his daughter and his insight into the “creative envy” that may motivate male artists. After traveling the world for forty years to study art and cultures, he arrived at a consilient approach to art, integrating cognitive evolution, developmental sociobiology and Buddhist theory and contemplative practices. In 1988, he created Logosoma Brain Training (LBT) by incorporating recent advances in brain science and Buddhist mindfulness techniques to help people master their relationship stress. His book Phantom Stress: Brain Training to Master Relationship Stress introduces these techniques to the public for the first time. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical School and trains Fellows in Child Psychiatry. He lives in New York City.
