About the Book

John, captain of a square-rigger, takes wife and children on an eventful, perilous voyage around Cape Horn to China. His sea adventures provide excitement in an account of the period that includes the War of 1812, sometimes referred to as "a forgotten war".

Mary Jo, a young woman with an exceptional singing voice, experiences additional heartbreak soon after loss of her father at sea. Watch her grope her way through a loveless marriage, her obsession with music lifting her to inspired heights or at times driving her to despair. Will the vibrant, passionate woman locked within her find freedom of expression and love?

Follow fourteen-year-old Jamie, impressed from his father´s fishing vessel by a gang from a British warship, as he faces the harsh realities of life in the Royal Navy. Join him in the horror of battle at sea, see him abandoned and lost in Russia, and journey with him through years of struggle to reach home.

Finally, hear an account of the storm that changed forever life as Marbleheaders had known it for generations.

About the Author

The author was born and grew up in Marblehead, the town she writes about in her novel Ride the Restless Tide. From an early age she loved the sea. She also loved music and chose a musical education, studying privately and attending The New England Conservatory of Music. Art and writing were secondary interests, set aside for development later in life. After singing professionally for a few years, she entered the business world. Eventually she became Assistant Employment Manager for the international daily newspaper The Christian Science Monitor. Somewhere along the line she took courses at Vesper George School of Art. Now enjoying retirement on Cape Cod, she is an artist and a writer, Secretary for the Bourne Cultural Council, member of The National League of American Pen Women, active in church work and in local cultural organizations.
