About the Book

                                                      Roses’ Mountain

Take an eye for an eye

There is definitely something sinister, going on above Hazard Kentucky. At first glance you will think all is calm and serene--but that is not the case. Let Rose Halloway tell you about her close calls and scrapes with death on this mountain where she is raised with a gentle hand. Darkness can cover a multitude of sins that will not go unnoticed by Rose. Her life has always been easy; until one fateful night she comes into contact with knowledge best not learned. Sometimes she is too cocky for her own good. Trying to cover her fear with a false bravery, she will find her life jumping from one encounter to another. Tears come hard and fierce and her heart breaks many times. Her beautiful red haired sister, Glory, will be her sustenance, her great friend and confidant. Together they will walk this mountain hand in hand, telling tales and laughing at the antics of their faithful companion, Jake. There will be many happy times with a friend down the hill, but always, there is the shadow of evil hanging over everything they do.

Rose will find a new and unlikely friend living one cabin down from her. An old lady that has always been feared and avoided will take the initiative one sad day, forever becoming a part of Rose’s life. A friendship will blossom into a safety that only the blindly loyal gentle giant can give to her.

The Reverend Amos Tanner will step in when the girls most need him, knowing he could have done more before, but always being away somewhere. The Reverend will take charge where he is really needed. His whip is a weapon feared and respected by many, only being used in dire emergencies. There will come a time when even he can not save Rose from the evil stalking her. He tries valiantly to help, but he is stopped in his tracks, leaving her to find another protector.

Hank Ricker will always have a shy love for Rose--never mentioning his feelings to her for fear of being rejected. His loyalty will prove to be the best thing that ever happened to Rose, keeping his brother Holt from robbing her of her freedom, and life.

There is no greater beauty than what you will find on Rose’s mountain. Her sister Glorie will find love and lose it, then find it again. She is as unassuming as Rose, but her beauty will take her over the hill to a place of her own, and the love of her life. Leaving Rose to continue on alone in her cabin on the hill.

So, come visit Roses’ Mountain. Sit a spell in the swing where she makes her most important decisions. Take a long look at the grandeur that is Kentucky. Breathe deeply of the air so fresh it can make you think you are in heaven. Listen to the little breeze that accompanies Rose everywhere she wanders. Check out the pond where she wades away the heat of the day. Hear the chug of long gone vehicles coming up the little dirt road leading to Rose’s cabin. Take the time to walk across the splintered front porch. Enter the cabin and feel the age old presence of….something. You will not be sorry you took the trip.
