Saint Michael's Prep, an exclusive boys school in affluent Bucks County, Pennsylvania, prides itself on building Christian gentlemen who are "A Cut Above". But when a star athlete is found dead on campus, the headmaster and the school's aging founder quickly close ranks to avoid any scandal. Saint Mike's alum, I.R.S. attorney Dan McMasters, is hired by the dead boy's father to investigate the "accidental" death. When McMasters pieces together a decades old puzzle of power and corruption, evil and hypocrisy, he uncovers a scandal so heinous it shakes Saint Mike's to its very core. For Dan, uncovering the truth is only half the battle. He is faced with the age old question of when does the end justify the means. In Dan McMasters' world, where good is found in the least likely place and evil is cloaked in a mantle of religious fervor, the line between black and white is seldom clear, and being "A Cut Above" is as ambiguous as the distinction between genius and insanity.

About the Author

David Breen is an attorney in Philadelphia. The author of several interactive murder mysteries, he has lectured on the history of the mystery genre and the craft of mystery writing through the Robert Stockton College of New Jersey. A first place winner in the Philadelphia Writer's Conference fiction competition, he has also placed second in PWC's short fiction category. A Cut Above is Dave's first mystery featuring Dan McMasters. Dave resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with his wife, Kristine, and daughter, Brittany. He is working on his latest mystery due in early 2002.
