About the Book

The subtitle of the book is meant to be ‘tongue in cheek’.  Are they Irish Vampirekillers  or Irish Vampire Killers?  The father Seamus is an alcoholic and this is the major subtext of the book.  Are their adventures real or the hallucinations of the father and overly sensitive daughter?

The book has everything you could ask for in a supernatural thriller.  A vampire killing starts the book off.  The next adventure is an exorcism.  Ghosts and ghouls follow them up the coast on an Amtrak train ride.  It’s an epic adventure through the San Diego Zoo, Mexico and Disneyland.

Many Southern California landmarks are used in the book.   My feeling is that Southern California with the bizarre quality of light and eerie transformed desert landscape, makes a perfect occult turf for the adventures of these two eccentric characters.

They transform their weaknesses into strength and form the team of ‘psychic detective’ which is of course an old pulp fiction standard.  I believe the form was first used by Edgar Allan Poe and made most famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with his Sherlock Holmes story.  Seamus and Emer are in a long line of occult detectives.

What makes them unique is they are father and daughter.  They both know they are way too sensitive for this harsh planet.  The father uses booze to blunt the world and young Emer uses many different things to keep her acute sensitivity from driving her mad.

Mainly it’s their love for each other that is the heart of the book.  That and the epic battle with Walkin’ Evil.   Evil that walks the planet and chases the team of psychic detectives.   It ends up with an ultimate confrontation in the cement river of Downtown Los Angeles.

Ultimately it’s up for the reader to decide.  Is the world full of magic or are they just mad?  Either way, you’ll never forget the adventures of Seamus and Emer.  They are the Irish Vampire Killers and their motto is “We Rule the Night!”.

About the Author

Clancy O’Hara, born a Pisces on March 3, was inspired to write about vampires by his dead father Seamus and his living daughter Meghan. He lives in Los Angeles and that is a supernatural adventure in itself. He was a close friend of Quentin Tarantinos at one time. Clancy published a small fiction zine called Pulp: A Fiction Magazine. The wee zine lasted for three years and won a couple of awards including an honorable mention in Years Best Fantasy and Horror for his short story The Asylum Choir. He is one of those nerds that has seen every movie ever made and a student of the occult and Celtic mythology.
