About the Author
Magdalene Robinson, is a registered nurse, poet and writer. She has written professionally for more than eighteen years. Her columns and articles have appeared in Jamaica Daily News and Sunday Sun, Western Mirror, New York West Indian Magazine and more recently, the Nursing Spectrum. As a nurse she develops and instructs programs to help other nurses improve their approach to care. Magdalene’s daughter, Kenya Hall who coauthors this book is a student nurse. Your Mama in America is not their autobiography but reflects insights into this subject, based on their lived experiences. They have lived this reality of mother and daughter separated from each other when at nineteen year old, Magdalene migrated to New York. Magdalene hopes Your Mama in America will prove useful to other mothers contemplating this desperate move. Kenya hopes this provides insight into another dimension of that woman, called girl, in so many North American homes.
