About the Book
Y´tram C. Nosluap accepts an invitation to his past, causing him a flashback into the vivid memories of a WW II fighter pilot. He attends a retirement party in D.C. for his old friend and publishing editor, Jen Suzxi. After the party he is released from his long-standing contract with the C.I.A. and told he no longer needs to practice Mai Guanzi (keep em guessing). He also is released from his anonymous clause and doesn´t need to use the pseudonym of Y´tram C. Nosluap and becomes his true self, Marty C. Paulson. Marty C. Paulson has been buried for a long time. As a member of the famed Flying Tigers stationed in Lingshan, China during WW II he met and fell in love with a Miss Shanda Wong. Driven from the City by treachery and deceit the Flying Tigers abandon their airfield as well as many of their ground crews to certain death at the hands of the Imperial Japanese Army. Marty´s attempts to determine what happened to Shanda and his search for years afterwards always come up negative. After the War´s end, Marty C. Paulson becomes a world-renowned free-lance investigative reporter and writer. He is famous for his political astuteness and has successfully marketed several books. He continues his search for information on his lost love and squadron friends through numerous influential sources but to no avail. Researching on-site data on China´s War Lords presents an opportunity, on the spur of the moment, to return to Lingshan. However, the city is under siege and appears to soon be sacked and burned. A local Chinese War Lord, "General Lo sen Yung" and his plundering troops are poised across the Qin River ready to loot and pillage the walled city. Marty´s approved Chinese travel plans do not include Lingshan. Marty felt he got his travel papers only because he had served Major Claire Lee Chennault as a civilian advisor in 1937 and had met Mao. His return starts by airline out of Bombay, India, where he realizes he has picked up a forbidding shadow. He privately nicknames him Gumshoe Qin. A short fat Chinese man, this Mazi (person with pocked marked face) featuring a huzi (thin pencil mustache), has eyebrows that would make AFL/CIO´s John L. Lewis jealous. At the last minute Marty decides it´s worth some risk just to see Lingshan suffer at the hands of the War Lord´s bandits. Seeing Gumshoe quickly change his plans so as to continue his tailing proves beyond a shadow of doubt he is following Marty. Upon landing in Lingshan, Marty discovers Miss Wong still works in the local Mission that serves as an orphanage and hospital. Checking into the local hotel/jail he sends a message by runner to Miss Wong. Their reunion fans old fires within him and it becomes his aspiration to convince Shanda to leave with him before the treacherous bandit´s strike. She believes his only reason for returning to Lingshan is revenge against the local Han for selling out to the Japanese without warning to the Americans back in WW II. After a reminiscing dinner at Shanda´s, she calls a young girl from the rear of her home and introduces her as their daughter. Completely unprepared for this turn of events Marty spends hours seeking answers for his questions. His mind then starts making plans to take the three of them from this dangerous City. However, Shanda continues to insist they will not be in any danger and refuses to consider leaving Lingshan. After a night of too much mulberry wine, and in self-defense, Marty shoots and kills the young pilot of the flight that brought him to Lingshan. As he checks to see if the pilot is really dead he is attacked by Gumshoe. Gumshoe is using a 3 bladed sleeve knife. During the scuffle with this second assailant Marty is struck on the head. When he awakens on the ground and stumbles to his feet he finds no attacker or body. Later, in his hotel room, an American of Chinese ancestry who reveals he is a C.I.A. agent stationed in Lingshan visits him. Agent Jen Suzxi explains that his friends took care of Gumshoe af

This is his first novel, be kind! He just might be able to add desert.
