About the Author
Ma Changkai was born in November 7, 1941. He was on his way to college when he was involved in a nondescript political storm which swept the nation along with the great famine in the early sixties. He received five years in a labor camp in the nation's northern border. At the end of his term Ma was compelled to remain on the farm when he became the target of continued humiliations and physical torture. He escaped and lived as an outlaw. Soon he was recaptured and sent back where he lived until 1979, having spent 19 years in the labor camp. Politically rehabilitated in the early 1980s Ma founded a motor garage and made a fortune. In 1992 he sold the garage to become a freelance writer.
