About the Book

In Columns, The Best of Doubting Thomas, Tom Dryden examines everything from home repairs to the myopia of the sacrosanct New York Times …from health care to family relationships …from politics to aging parents. See what he has to say about these and other topics. Baseball: “…Next to the annual colonoscopy I have to endure because of a family history of unpleasantness in that netherworld, Major League baseball is my least favorite pastime. Getting rid of telemarketers: “Don’t talk to them when they call. Sing to them. Last night I broke into ‘Having My Baby’ for someone who said he was calling me at the personal request of Pat Buchanan.” Food Critics: If you’ve dined with a critic who ordered lamb brain ravioli or calf’s head, do you offer that critic a good-night kiss? And if so, do you slip the critic a little tongue (rare of course)? Not on your life. P&G doesn´t make enough Scope for that.

About the Author

Some men dream of flying jet planes. Others of being professional golfers. Or as rich as Bill Gates. Not Tom Dryden. Founder of a successful marketing communications agency, his lifelong dream was to write a newspaper column. He got his wish when his local newspaper ran an ad for a columnist. He applied and, to his wife’s horror, got the job. Here are some of his favorite columns in which he examines with his off-the-wall style such topics as advertising, politics, TV, lawyers, airlines and more. Most will make you laugh out loud. A few may bring a tear to your eye. Tom’s column, Doubting Thomas, appears in the Wilton Villager in Wilton, Conn. By day, he runs Dryden Partners in Norwalk, Conn., which produces advertising, direct mail and promotions for a wide range of clients. A native of Auxvasse, Mo., he lives in Wilton with his wife, two teenage sons and two dogs.
