Margery Short Zerko was a young, college-bound girl when her aunt, a deaconness in The Methodist Church whom Margery greatly admired, asked her what she wanted to do with her life. When Margery described her dreams her aunt said, “My goodness! If you do all that, your life will be like a hopscotch!” They both laughed. Some of those dreams materialized, some didn’t. Sixty years later when Margery was writing her memoirs, that remark popped into her mind, “Your life will be like a hopscotch,” and she had found a title for this book, to be divided into Squares rather than Chapters.
