Although she is the first generation of her family to be raised in a non-agricultural setting, she chose agriculture as a profession. She attended and graduated from Ralph H. Metcalfe Community School, the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, Delaware State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
