In a city hit hard by difficult economic times, many people are suffering. Families strive for existence while trying to remain a family. Some will succeed. Some will not.

When Pearl loses her family, she also loses the fight in her battle for survival and dies shortly afterwards. Why? Can a young girl die in a bootleg town and no one knows what happened? Will the circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery? That is how it seems.

This story is told amid the backdrop of turn of the century St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. during the period known as the Gilded Age.
