About the Book

The chase began after Deans, the CEO of a drug company, shot me full of the drug Haze and raped me while I was paralyzed.  Coming to, I burned Philip’s study to escape Acht and Tender, Deans’s goons. Alone, naked except for Lily’s coat, I sat in her VW, crying, listening to “I’m All Alone In Toledo”, a song that helped me back to reality. The worst was to come.

Time collapsed when Haze took my memory. Events lie in fragments on the floor of my mind: a salesman tried to rape me; Dr. Cynthia Kernel locked me in a mental ward as a psychopathic murderer.

The mental hospital saved me by allowing me to meet Cassandra and Ripples who have enriched me beyond what I can repay. Falling in love with Cassandra was easy – lovely, fragile, singing Ariel’s songs from The Tempest, using ESP to warn us of dangers.

Falling in love with Ripples, with her foul mouth and her multiple body rings, surprised me. I treasure her for her street smarts, her compassion.  Ripples was all courage and risk; she took me and Cassandra on a wild car ride on the frozen Duck River.

Without Cassandra, without Ripples, I would have died.

At least, I remembered the teachings of my old boyfriend, “Choose Wisely To Kill”. I love those girls – bastard sisters of Deans’s dirty poker. I think I’ll adopt them so I can face the other terrors in my life.

The world needs wonder and heroism and courage. Otherwise we’re just flying from one island to the next, drinking Pina coladas.
