Born in 1918, in a small rural town in South Dakota, Donald J. Burg was one of eight children born from a long line of farmers. After his graduation from college during the Depression, he earned his pilot’s wings through the Federal Government’s Civilian Pilot Training Program. During World war 11, he served in the Navy as a pilot, winning the Distinguished Flying Cross for an air-sea rescue. Out of service, one of his first jobs was as a salesman for Marshall Field in Chicago which led to a successful career in the jewelry business. Currently the author lives in Elm Grove, Wisconsin with Jane, his beautiful wife of fifty-seven years. He maintains his association with the Rotary Club, St. Mary’s Church, and Treiber-Straub Co. Jewelers. He continues to be an avid tennis player, gardener and professional sports enthusiast. In addition, he actively enjoys time with his daughters, son and grand-daughters.
