About the Book
´Rich´ Richards is middle-age, married with two young daughters, and lives in the suffocating, luke warm, chicken-soup-like environment (yawn) of a San Francisco Bay suburb. After twelve years residency he is bored to tears, and looking for a change, any change when the town incorporates and forms a new police department. Richards volunteers as a reserve police officer, not really realizing what the committment entails. After interviews and testing, he is one of seven reserve officer candidates accepted into the program, and completes night and Saturday training sessions. Upon becoming a sworn peace officer, he rides as backup officer with regular officers on weekend patrols. He is shot at the first night on patrol, a bit more exciting than the change he was anticipating. Other encounters range from drug busts, riot duty, and rape investigation, to confrontation with a professional killer. An exciting read, providing some insight into the sometimes ´testy´ relationships between regular police officers, and their backup reserves.
