About the Book
This book has a mission: to give you what you need to use English wisely and well. Mother Nature already endowed you with the gift of language but often your ability to exploit her generosity is called into question by a host of gloomy `experts'. Most of what they have to say is misleading and misguided. Everyday Vital English on the contrary contains nothing but useful material. From descriptions of the forms and functions of the parts of speech, to guidance on punctuation, spelling, word derivation and making vocabulary choices, Everyday Vital English provides you with the means to reclaim and enjoy your linguistic heritage.
About the Author
In the interests of full disclosure, the author admits to having contributed to Punch as an irreverent twenty something. Since then, all publications - a series of language textbooks for university students, an educational software authoring system for knowledge-based subject matter, GEMM, and its first application, EVE - have been of an academic nature. The author has taught language, linguistics and applied linguistics at McGill and Concordia Universities as well as the University of Montreal. M. Brocklehurst has also served on curriculum advisory committees for the Ministry of Education of Quebec and acted as linguistic consultant to a multinational corporation in Montreal.
