About the Book

LONG SUMMARY: So You Want to Be a Coach has been written for budding team sports coaches, the “wannabes” --- young or old. This book is a compendium of the basic principles the author learned over his early years that helped him become a successful coach. Although he draws heavily from his own experiences, this book is not about him --- just sage advice from a coach who has “been there/done that.” Coach Forker emphasizes that his observations are not the law. They are intended to help new coaches reflect on their coaching philosophy, make evaluations, consider alternatives, polish that philosophy even further, and hit the ground running as they take those early steps in their coaching journey. He has deliberately avoided the sophisticated labyrinths of coaching, fully recognizing that new coaches will ultimately have to address them at some point, but not when they are lacing them up for the first time. The author also realizes that, in the early going, you may need some special guidance and is making a unique offer. Should you have any questions that you would like to discuss privately with the coach, you may e-mail him, free of charge, and receive a studied response.
