About the Book

In "Primeval Fear" horror novelist Christopher Treagus, author of "The Hunting Sorrow" and "To Tame The Moon" explores the roots behind the elements and archetypes of horror literature. Discover why the vammpire yet plagues us after all these years. Why the monster is such a potent enemy, and from where the werewolf legend stems, among others. Understand why stories of ghosts and occultism permeates our society, and, most important, learn why Horror is such a necessary genre in today´s world.

"Christopher Treagus knows his stuff when it comes to horror. Just when you thought you knew everything there was to know about our beloved genre and its history, PRIMEVAL FEAR proves otherwise. There is SO much to learn here. PRIMEVAL FEAR should be required reading for all die-hard horror aficianados. A fascinating read!" -- J. Newman (Author of HOLY ROLLERS, "Dirty Black Summer," Fiction Editor, DEVIANT MINDS)

Christopher Treagus is also the author of the novel "The Hunting Sorrow" ISBN 0-595-01140-3 and short story collection "To Tame The Moon" ISBN 0-7388-6231-2.

What critics say about Treagus´ fiction:

"Treagus does this with a passion. He is able to create scenes within scenes that leave the reader so into the story that they forget that they are involved with a book, and not life. Treagus takes the reader into an adventure of passion, revenge, love and hate and fulfills each conflict with a higher conflict." ---Danielle Naibert, The Book Reviewer Site

What´s been said about "The Hunting Sorrow":

"Treagus is very good at large set pieces. His descriptions of Egypt, particularly of the aftermath of an earthquake, are splendidly wrought.... I give him an “A” for ambition and scope ...I recommend this book to readers with a keen interest in Egyptology." -----Garrett Peck, for Cemetery Dance

A FEW WORDS FROM THE AUTHOR:

"Where do you get your ideas?" and "Why do you write horror?" These are the two most common questions asked of horror writers, often times spoken with trepidation and a hint of revulsion.  I should know.  I have been asked this many times myself. For the last decade or so I have been seriously writing horror fiction, while in the previous few, I have also been working in a book store. "Primeval Fear" has grown out of the realization that most people do not know what horror literature is really about.  This book attempts to explain many of the genre´s most enduring icons and archetypes.

The subjects discussed in this book are vast in nature. Which is why I am making available this Special Limited Edition of "Primeval Fear: The Elements of Classic Horror." I will soon be publishing a ´Revised and Expanded´ edition in a mass market format, and would like to encourage the reader, whether an avid horror fan themselves, or just those who have but a passing interest, to read this book and contact me via e-mail at primevalfear@aol.com with any questions they may have about issues covered, or not covered. I would like to make this an interactive project, and encourage all commentary. What would you like to see, or know more about? Visit my new web pages at http://www.suite101.com/myhome.cfm/primevalfearinteractive to join in the discussion, or take a look at the Question And Answers forum.

Planned for the "Revised" edition will be further essays on many of the topics within, a commentary on more recently released material, as well as an indepth look on many more of the "classics" that contain horrific elements both within the genre and without. There will also be a Question and Answer section in the back, and a full list of acknowledgements for those who have assisted in this project.

So read, enjoy, and let me know what you think.
