My KGB Experience

Allow me to introduce you to my hero: King Goliath Booker—or like some guys who go by their last name: “Booker.” He’s a young boy who is incredibly sweet by nature, is extremely handsome, loves to please and play, and is very excitable, as well as strong willed. He’s only ten months old, and thus far in his life, he has encountered medical concerns that have resulted in him being on bland diets, as well as multiple medications (some lifelong). His medical concerns have had cause for multiple operations and countless doctor visits. Some of his issues include a bad belly rash, a severe chest infection, damage to his esophagus and punctures to his lungs, inflammation in his bones, and a heart disease known as TVD, not to mention a few bouts with diarrhea and some ticks here and there. . . . Booker is our yellow Labrador retriever. So maybe you’ve heard: “There’s a lot you can learn from a dummy,” “Lessons from geese,” “. . . so much to learn from children,” and so on. But let me tell you, this 82-pound puppy has a serious life lesson to teach, and I’m one of his attentive students! That was written shortly after Booker was seen for the first time by his cardiologist (really?!). Yes, folks, my dog has a cardiologist! And so, since the age of ten months. Now, I wouldn’t characterize myself as being religious, but I do have a strong faith. Additionally, I have a deep belief in some well-known statements (not clichés). My favorites are “Timing is everything,” “Everything happens for a reason,” and “God will not let you be tried beyond your strength” (He doesn’t give to us what we cannot handle). The more I experience life and its lessons, the more I have reason to be a bigger advocate of these “testaments,” if you will. Booker’s situations have only made larger impressions. I’ve considered telling his story with missing pieces, but before I even get to the end and his lesson, you’d figure it out. Or would you? Well, I’m just going to tell you in full detail instead. Booker’s reminder to me every day is simply put: No matter what, enjoy your life; don’t just simply live it. You have to keep on keeping on! You just have to, no matter what; but have fun in the small moments along the way! Regardless of what may happen along your journey, giving up is not an option. That’s not new information, folks; I realize my dog was not delivering a revelation to anyone who will listen (or read), but his message comeswith a story that emphasizes how “someone” can truly have a will to live and this is his. It’s his story of perseverance and determination. Perhaps it will inspire or motivate you like it did me, or maybe it will just capture your attention.
