About the Book
The Cat on the Catamaran is a children's book for adults, near-adults, and children who read at a high grade level. It's the story of an aging tomcat, charming but irresponsible, who supports himself by picking pockets and little girls' lockets. He is deaf to the advice of the storyteller who befriends him and so he goes his own way only to encounter a terrible storm that arrives during the heart of the Christmas season. This not only leaves him ill, it forces him to rethink his entire life. At story's end, he is a thoroughly changed cat.
This Christmas tale is told in forty rhyming verses of four lines each, and has eighteen full-color illustrations.
This is a sample verse:
I could see in his smile the hint of deep guile
As he pressed me for something to eat.
"I've been fasting, I fear, too much of the year,
And I'm quite overdue for a treat."
