About the Book

The story of how one religious community, the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, renewed and re-imaged itself during the post-Vatican II decades (1958-1990). The history documents how the community’s leaders—Sisters Alice Scheirberl, Mary Margaret Kraus and Joan Chittister—inspired and helped shape a new vision of monastic life. The Erie Benedictines who lived through those years hold the memory with reverence. Others who read the book can understand and share with them a journey from medieval living to modernity, a spiritual awakening of depth and new Gospel possibility.
