About the Book

This work studies the policies of the Department of Education in Puerto Rico for a period of 30 years -1950 to 1980- to trace the process of Americanization in the schools of the island throughout that period. Texbooks, basal readers, circular letters, memos, and periodicals were also researched. It contains the criterium used which lead toward the conclusions that the schools in Puerto Rico have been a tool in and intentional Americanization process and the elimination of Puerto Rican culture.
