Gerald, at first, thought it had all started when he bought the portrait of Jeanie. Apparently not. The spirit had entered his life much earlier, when he was 17, when his love for Jeanie was so intense it frightened him, when she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, and to love her was totally unimaginable!

They had loved, there, upon the arctic tundra, with summer mosquitoes going unnoticed, delicate kisses merging their souls as lovers´ souls must do. Society said she was a half-breed. This is when it happened. Gazing upon her image, this haunted portrait, assaulted by memories a lifetime ago, he realized he had not forgotten. He had only buried the pain! A farm-boy´s calamitous decision, an event so disrupting the universe, so angering the ancient gods they still pursued him! Impossible! Just a picture he´d ´discovered´ at an Indian Trading Post, right? Haunted? What compulsion made him buy it? What strange fascination lures him to gaze upon her beauty, hour after hour, indifferent to buried decades? Cool, man. Until the day the portrait spoke to him.

What of his friends: each susceptible teenager visiting his substandard apartment exposing their inner secrets: unaware of doing so?

He couldn´t permit himself as pawn to any godly vengeance---whatever their power! Gerald J. Jewell was master of his own destiny! He would not permit the whole goddamn universe to come tumbling down just to satisfy some spectral etherworld´s idea of revenge! He had only to kill the messenger, defeat the gods,and face the realization true sexual predators on this earth were the children.

About the Author

As a federally certified Airport Traffic Control Tower Operator serving in the western portion of the United States, Harold V. Blackman retired after twenty years with the Federal Aviation Agency and decided to write novels. Reincarnation of Niomi reflects his love of the Southwest, the eroded canyons and high arid plateaus of the Rocky Mountains, the native culture, the mixed breed of young people, and---one ghost. With all of his six children grown, wife Debra accompanys him on field trips into the rugged terrain, open bonfires, geological surveys, and fantastic photographs. Back home on God’s Little Acre in Colorado, he mows the lawn for exercise.
