The story begins at my new home in my new furry bed. Springtime, helping my new mommy plant flowers for the patio. I got a new gardening hat, but I don’t like to wear it because I think it makes me look funny. One weekend in July, my parents took me to the lake to watch a very different kind of boat race. All the watercrafts were handmade and manpowered; no motors allowed. It was a great day with all kinds of people in costumes, almost like Halloween. I even got to fire the finish canon at the end of the race. Boy was it loud. This was my first camping road trip with my new family to Zion National Park. I was a little scared, so I got to sleep in my parent’s tent. We hiked up the Virgin River canyon, and it was really fun playing on the sandbars, but I don’t like getting in the water very much, too soggy. Dad let me help set up camp in Zion by climbing up the tree to put up the lantern. Mom and Dad had to put up our tent because I was too little to be of much help with that. We went exploring around the Checkerboard rock formation. Boy was it hot, over one hundred degrees. We stopped in town later to have my favorite thing, ice cream—yum! I got to go on a day trip in the canyon with my family and see all the neat rocks and nature stuff. From Zion we drove to Bryce Canyon for several days of camping and hiking. Wow, talk about some incredible views everywhere you look. This was even more fun than the last campground; they had a big store and fireworks at night. We went to all the scenic overlooks, and I got to climb around a lot. But I did get in trouble once or twice for getting too close to the edge of the cliff, but it was still way too cool. That’s the Queen’s Garden behind me; I can’t wait to go hiking in it. We did a lot of exploring on trails and caves and hiking around all of the lookout points. At the end of the day, we made dinner on the grill and then went down to the hot tub and swimming pool. I’m not much of a water cat; it makes my fur too sticky. We drove to Inspiration Point late one morning, but I had to have a snack first before we went exploring. Mommy was really nice and let me have some animal cookies.

About the Author
April and Troy Gardner met eight years ago at a Halloween costume party. They have been married for two years and are in the process of adopting a new born infant. They had an interest in photography most of their lives and they love to collect cute stuffed animals so the two naturally came together. They also share many interests: traveling, hiking, camping and downhill skiing. April is an only child of a military family and they are very close. She has loved photography since childhood when her father let her use his Polaroid camera for the first time. She has degrees in photography, psychology, journalism and as a physical therapist’s assistant. Troy is a Colorado native and is the youngest of four children. His mother is an artist which is where his creative talent comes from. He went to Colorado School of Mines and now works as a Software Engineer.
