About the Author
John Weigel was born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1913. After working road construction for thirty-five cents an hour, John went on to find easier work and started his broadcasting career at age seventeen in Mansfield, Ohio. He then attended and graduated from Ohio State University in 1935. Continuing his career in Chicago, he worked for the Columbia Broadcasting Network. He was the personal announcer for President Eisenhower and Lawrence Welk. In 1964, he founded Channel 26 (WCIU) in Chicago. In 1979, he moved to Muscoda, Wisconsin to operate a dairy farm, where he still resides. John has made annual trips to SosĂșa since 1972. He not only loves SosĂșa but the beautiful Dominican people, and their love of life.
