About the Book

Christian Fairchild came to the land of the eternal sunshine to study art and found it a dramatic change from the lush green hills of western Pennsylvania. The Big War was over and the Cold War had started, then the Korean conflict upset the post-war boom. It was 1950 and the economy was in the doldrums as the new war heated up. With the exception of a few businesses, southwestern Florida hardly noticed. This was a different world, a captivating wonderland and Chris loved it, and although these were bumpy times he would find a niche of sorts with some good friends – and love.

Bouncing around and barely surviving he was drawn into the world of the Circus and a local Theater. The sea and the sun enticed him to the beaches and he reveled in the beauty of these Latitudes. He was also dazzled by the beauty of Jennifer Cavell, an aspiring your actress and the battles with himself began.

His elusive Butterfly as the called her, was at once a joy and a torment, but if his life in ‘Lotus Land’ was a constant struggle he was repaid with friendships and love – but he learned that being a sun worshiper had it’s price.
