Summary This book is essentially the author’s memoir of his professional life, from first interest in film in 1948 while teaching at Western Michigan University to after his retirement from Northwestern University in 1991. Along the way it offers a record of the beginning and subsequent development of the new academic field of film studies.
About the Author
Author’s biography Jack C. Ellis started the film program at Northwestern University. A founding member of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, he served as its president and later as editor of its Cinema Journal. His publications include A History of Film, The Documentary Idea: A Critical History of English-Language Documentary Film and Video, and John Grierson: Life, Contributions, and Influence.
