About the Book

PERCEPTIONS OF AN EGYPTIAN IMMIGRANT – INTERACTION OF CULTURES
By Said M. Ahmed, PE, PhD, Book ID: 23745

The author, Dr. Said M. Ahmed, PE was born in Egypt at the beginning of the Second World War—He completed Primary and Secondary Schools 1953—College at Cairo University 1958—He traveled to America for graduate studies 1959—worked on the Aswan High Dam project in Egypt and visited the USSR. He decided to immigrate to the United States after the Egyptian defeat in the five-day war with Israel his visit to the USSR 1968.

Egypt was involved in political systems experimentation in addition to conflicts and wars since his birth 1937 until the 1977 Camp David Peace Treaty sponsored by America and its president, Mr. Jimmy Carter. The treaty freed Egypt from the ghost of wars, which impacted Egyptians politically, militarily, culturally, socially and economically.

Dr. Ahmed considers himself lucky immigrating to the United States—enlightened traveling around the world—studying, working and interacting with people of different cultures. One of his extended travels in the 1980s—as an American citizen—was a work assignment in the country of his birth—Egypt. The assignment and continuous travel—gave him the opportunity to observe and interact with Egyptians and other nationalities and understand their successes and failures, their joy and pain. He returned back to America 1990—and continued national and international business travel—and saw evolution in lifestyles and change in people’ attitudes that energized him to record his perceptions of the new world circumstances.

The book “Perceptions of an Egyptian Immigrant - Interaction of Cultures” is sixteen chapters, 519 pages that evolved from international travel and work’ experiences—and interactions with several cultures. Dr. Ahmed believes perceptions can change with adequate education and interaction between cultures—then, world’ moralities will converge and a universal true faith code of conduct will emerge. The truth will prevail and falsehood will vanish as reviewed in the upcoming Part II of his Perceptions. Part III will offer perceived reforms for Egypt—a heavily populated developing state model—can achieve freedom and prosperity through adequate education, trust and resolve.

Dr. Ahmed believes the interacting multi-cultures in American society created a strong productive alloy of resolute citizens that are capable of interacting, listening, and visioning themselves and the world. The world comes to America to solve difficult technological, military and economical issues. The American citizens are more acceptable in the rest of the world—because of its prosperous multicultural and multiracial fabric. The American culture adopts the best of its diversified citizenry.

America maintains its morality, economic strength, military strength, technological superiority and its multicultural - multiracial wealth through the constant flow of new immigrants. The world should learn from America that education; freedom, democracy, diversity, interaction, and hard work are the secrets of strength and prosperity. Interaction and intermarriage between different races and cultures are bonding features in successful societies like America and the former Muslim nation. Dr. Ahmed perceives—Americans’ adherence to universal morality keeps America superior and a good political role model for many countries of the world.

About the Author

SAID M. AHMED, PE, PhD “Those who live long see and observe—and those who travel learn, see, interact and observe more” is an Egyptian saying regarding the importance of travel and interaction in education, experience and gaining wisdom. Dr. Ahmed is an American citizen born in Egypt. He received elementary, secondary and college education in Egypt and completed his graduate studies in America. He is a professional engineer with national and overseas experience and skills ranging from handyman work in and around his house—to electric power plant design, engineering, construction and management of small and mega projects. Dr. Ahmed is an observer, who traveled the world, interacted and listened to many simple and sophisticated people of all nationalities, religions, colors and cultures—in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, America and the former USSR. He noticed that [irrespective of the technological progress] all people are socially the same—they have passion, anger and desires—and for peace and prosperity, people need consistent spiritual guidance, good education and freedom coupled with responsibility. He often tells his children, family, friends and others to have piety, passion, and patience and do good, so that the heavens and earth help them achieve liberty, peace and prosperity.
