About the Author

Mandy Frantti grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, surrounded by family, friends, trees, and Lake Superior. After high school, Mandy attended Michigan Technological University and became a teacher. She moved from what is known as the “Copper Country” to Munising, Michigan where she lives today. Mandy teaches physics, astronomy, and mathematics at Munising High School. From her classroom window she looks out over Munising Bay on Lake Superior where she daily draws inspiration. She also gives piano lessons and does Education and Public Outreach for NASA. In addition to her work, which she loves, Mandy has many and varied interests; piano, art, travel, reading, writing…. When it comes to being an artist, Mandy has opened herself up to many media, including watercolor painting, drawing, photography, and jewelry making. Mandy finds solace as well as inspiration in the nature around her. Lake Superior in all its moods is most influential of all. Each season in the U.P. has its special qualities, including the beautiful sparkling white winters. She also draws from the wonder of the greater universe, such as that which has been revealed by the Hubble Space Telescope. In additional to nature, Mandy has been affected by culture. Among her travels she has visited China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Finland, and Estonia.
