About the Book

Having grown up in a tough neighborhood, Manfred Beach sets out to prove his self-worth. He enlists in the marines and is trained to be an office clerk. In an act of revenge, he is sent to survive as a grunt in Vietnam, joining an infantry unit that was wiped out. The story follows Beach’s struggle to get out of the bush and the conflict this creates with his fellow grunts. When offered a choice, Beach decides that honor is more important than justice, a decision that will nearly cost him his life in the bloodiest battle of the war.
