About the Author

Herbert Pless was an educator and served as Superintendent of the Ridley School District in Pennsylvania. He received his doctorate from Temple University and was on the staff of the Graduate School of Education at Widener University. He has authored more than twenty texts, manuals, and articles, including ”Modern Science”, “Ventures in Science”, and “Tools of Science”. “The Cantonist” is his first attempt at fiction. The inspiration for the novel came from his father’s childhood in the Ukraine during the late 1800s. The author and his wife Jeanne, without whose encouragement and assistance the book would have not been completed, have two children and four grandchildren.
