About the Book

This is the story of Emily, a happy, active five year old, who suddenly becomes ill. Emily describes the process through which she is diagnosed with celiac disease, and chronicles real-life situations that all children with dietary restrictions inevitably face. She then recounts the lifestyle changes necessary to manage her disease in terms that young children can understand.

"This is one of the best products I have for children with celiac disease. Really well done!"
-Dr. Alessio Fasano, M.D., Center for Celiac Research, University of Maryland

"A much needed and timely piece of work."
-Dr. Ramasamy Manikam, M.D., Center for Celiac Research, University of Maryland

-Trisha B. Lyons, R.D., L.D., Clinical Dietitian, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland

"Great storybooks for children with celiac disease are rare. Eating Gluten-Free with Emily (Xlibris) is an exceptional new entry into this niche. Author Bonnie J. Kruszka tells the upbeat tale of Emily, a happy five-year-old who just happens to have celiac disease. We follow along as Emily goes from diagnosis through dealing with daily diet challenges, all illustrated with whimsical watercolors by Richard S. Cihlar. The book emphasizes that celiac disease is just one part of what makes children like Emily special, and it shows your child that she´s not the only one who brings her own cupcake to birthday parties."
