Sandy F.Macri fought in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany from 1943-1945 while serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Army he joined the National Guard. He was decorated for his time in the service. He was awarded the Bronze Metal Star with arrowhead, and three Battle Stars. In 1995, he was awarded New York’s highest military honor, The Conspicuous Service Cross. For 25 years he was a harness race horse owner and trainer. In 1997 he was diagnosed with a bone marrow disease known as MDS. He agreed to receive daily experimental shots of a drug known as LDI-200. The results of this treatment were astonishing to his Oncology doctors. The drug gave him almost 50% of the platelets required in the human body. As a result of the program the drug was administered to Leukemia patients with MDS a few years later. The author’s other credits include “Four Leaves of Clover-Through the Sands of Time in World War II” a book describing his time served in the United States Army in World War II. This book was published in 2001. On July 2, 2004 Sandy F. Macri passed away at the age of 82. He was in the process of having this, his second book published. His son Edward followed through with his wishes to finish the process.
