About the Book

A seventeen year old boy from Jersey City joins the army after World War II, chasing the adventures he dreamed about all during his high school days in the 1940’s. Private Robert Kelly trains in the south, during the summer and experiences both culture and climate shock. Given a permanent posting to Camp Polk, Louisiana, he schemes to get away from there at any cost. The devious plan works and he is given orders for shipment overseas to the army of occupation in Korea. His studies in history didn’t give him a clue as to the location of this country or its connection to The Empire of Japan. Kelly’s new assignment with the 6th Infantry Division brings him into association with some older combat veterans. With these new buddies he finds himself in situations that are at times both humorous and dangerous. His one year deployment gives him an education in the real world and experiences for memories of a life time.
